Fellowship Role: Director of Operational Effectiveness, Division of Early Childhood Education, New York City Department of Education (New York, NY)

Charles will assume a new role as the Director of Operational Effectiveness for the Division of Early Childhood Education for the New York City Department of Education as part of the Fellowship. In this role, he will be responsible for leading organizational planning and implementing strategic initiatives in communications, culture, and goal setting for the Division's Operations. Prior to joining the Fellowship, Charles served as an MBA Strategy Associate at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he supported the Global Education advisory team in the creation of a founding strategy with a particular emphasis on cross-border leadership development and intentional network creation. Before joining Gates, Charles served as the Co-Director of the Founding India Team for Bridge International Academies, the largest operator of low-income schools in the developing world. Charles has served in instructional and leadership positions with the Dallas Independent School District, KIPP Public Charter Schools, Leadership for Educational Equity, Khan Academy, and Students Matter. Prior to his career in education, Charles was a US Army Officer and decorated for his service in Iraq.  

Charles holds an M.B.A. in Strategy from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University and a B.A. in History from the University of New Mexico, and he is a graduate of both the Army Military Intelligence Basic Officer Leadership Course and Captain's Career Course.
