Abby serves as Senior Director of Instruction for Special Education Office within the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE), where she is responsible for planning and leading the instructional team in their work around literacy, transition, behavior, and quality IEPs. During the Fellowship, she took on an expanded role as Senior Advisor and Central Liaison with the NYCDOE while continuing her work as the Senior Director of Instructions. Prior to this role, Abby was the principal of Bronx Design and Construction Academy (BDCA), a public school in New York City. Abby led BDCA to an over 20% graduation increase while building a Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards-aligned instructional program that offered both CTE state certifications as well as Advanced Placement courses to prepare all students for multiple career and college pathways. As the founding assistant principal, she led the development of BDCA’s highly successful special education program and achieved 100% of students moving to a less restrictive environment and the decertification of up to 15% of students annually.

Abby holds an M.Ed. in Administration from Columbia University, an M.A. in Special Education from Pace University, and a B.A. and B.S. from the University of Oregon. She is currently working towards her doctorate at Johns Hopkins University.
